Final Exam (The Water Cycle)

a)
The water cycle is a cycle showing how water moves through our enviroment and how it changes through diffrent stages. In the water cycle evaporation occurs. Evaporation is when the water turns into a vapor subtance. it goes from a liquid to a gas. so it's a chemical change caused by the sun. evaporation happens when the sun heats up the water goes into the air as a gasous subtance. Water from evaportion is from bodies of water like lakes rivers streams and oceans. transpiration is when the roots of a plant carry water though the steam and the water is relased through the leaves as the vapor. There are some studies that say transpiration is 10% of the water in our atmoshpere. Transpiration occurs in plants. Condesation is when water vapor in the air gets cold, so the water the was just heated up form evaportaion or transipration was cooled to cause condensation, which is the vapor going back to a liquid form of water. when condensation in the atmoshpere happens it makes clouds. precipitation happens when the condensation that just made clouds get too heavy and falls to the ground as rain, snow, or hail. Infiltration is the water that saoks up into the ground after it rains. infiltration has many diffrent factors like precipitation, soil concentration, the richness of the siol, land cover, and slope of the land. surface runoff is water from parcipitaion goes over the surface of the land. now when this happens there are drains and water sheds to prevent the flooding of water. Ground water is water that is underground. water that is under gounrd is caused by infilration but then used by plants for trispiration. absorbtion is when the surface water is absorbed in the ground. all of thesse are involded in the water cycle becuase evaporation stars with the bodies of water. so when evaportaion occurs it condenses and makes clouds, called condensation, then when there is soo much condensation that the clouds get to heavy precipitation occurs, then because of precipitation the grund soaks up watr called infiltration then depending on how much precipitation there is surfae runoff, then the water that is help by infiltration is called ground water, ground water is also the absortion of watr in the ground, which is used by plants to start the whole cycle over agian with transpiration. then the cycle just keeps goign and going.

b)
so in a water shed there is a cycle as well.the flow of water starts wth the ground water that was caused by precipition. the ground water then can either useding the water shed drain into a wetland which would then drain into the rivers adstreams hch would theno into lakes to be evaportaed again and go through the water cycle agian agian and agian.

c)
A river is a body of water movng through diffrent altiudes because of gravity. some rivers and streams get there water becuase the ground itsn't able to absorb all fo the water so some water would runoff and go into rivers or streams. when there is too much runoff and alot of water goes into rivers or treams and then when teres too much water the streams and rivers will over flow causeing floods. depostion is when the gasous water vapor goes into something like a soild like frost snow or ice. it is caused by climate factors. rivers and streams cause erosionbexaue when the water is moveing acroos it can force or pick up rocks and sediment causeing erosion. Soem river types are black water, they are very low and acid like. Wht water, they look muddy and brown because there is so much sediment. then clear water is water that appers blue and very clean looking.

The Final Exam ( the Earth in Space)

a)
Our Galaxy is a spiral galxay. Our glalaxy is called the Milky Way Galaxy. Our Solar System is near the outside Orian arm of the Spiral Galaxy. Earth is about 30,000 light years away form the center of our Spiral Galaxy. Our sloar systems moves with our galaxy. Our solar system moves with our galaxy. so when the galaxy rotates the solar system stays in the same part of the orain arm and moves with the arm. while that's happening the planets are still orbiting around the sun. the size of the milky way galaxy is about 60,000 light years across. Now the Structure of our galaxy. our galaxy is a spiral galaxy that has over 4oo billion stars, gas and dust, bur more importantly our solar system. A spiral glaxay has a cirular center called the nuclear bulge, or the galactic center. then that arms that come off the center is where our solar system is found. our solar systems sturctuer has the sun in the center and the plnets orbit around the sun. the order of the planets are mercury, venus, Earth, mars, jupiter, saturn, uranus, neptune, next would be pluto but it is no longer a planet. but becasue the plnets are at diffrent distances it takes plnets diffrent amouts of time to orbit around the sun. it takes Earth one year where it takes neptune about 250 to orbit around the sun once. there are predictions that the universe is 10 to 20 billion years old where as Earth is somewhere around 4.5 billion years old.

b)
The Big bang Theory had a lot of influance on the formation of the universe. the big Bang theory is a theory meaning that is was proven several times but theres still a very slim chance taht it's wrong. But the big bang thoery is when there was a big explosion cauesing the formation of the univerves like our own solar system. when this expolsion happened it caused a creation of our plents which makes up our solar system. The explosion also caused gases to be realsed into the atmoshpere. but it helped with formation because when the explotion happend rocks where blown off that made our planets. so it helped with the formation of our universe.

c)
"In 1963, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, two scientists in Holmdale, New Jersey, were working on a satellite designed to measure microwaves. When they tested the satellite's antenna, they found mysterious microwaves coming equally from all directions. At first, they thought something was wrong with the antenna. But after checking and rechecking, they realized that they had discovered something real. What they discovered was the radiation predicted years earlier by Gamow, Herman, and Alpher. The radiation that Penzias and Wilson discovered, called the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, convinced most astronomers that the Big Bang theory was correct. For discovering the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, Penzias and Wilson were awarded the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physics. "
So because the cosmic microwave found thesse misterious waves that helped back up the big bang theory even more. the misterious waves were almost like an echo of the big bang theroy even after all of thesse years. so because the cosmic microwave is picking up thesse waves from the big bang theory thosse waves can be dated back to when it actully happened because if the waves are happening because of the bigbang thorey than you can know the age or hoe long ago our univesre was made. so that's how the cosmic microwave was used to determine that age of our univesre.

Great lakes

I learned on the river that there are many factors that are happening in the water, like temperature, nitrogen, phosphate, turbidity, BOD, and many other things. My project for the river was the nitrate levels, and they were at 70, which is average. I expected this because I have never thought that the river was very healthy or at normal levels, because of all the runoff and contaminates going into the river everyday. Our action project can help make the river healthy by if people decide to use fertilizers in their gardens, and if they use them in healthy amounts for the environment.
The biggest lake in terms of volume is lake superior. the smallest is lake erie, The most urban lake is lake erie, the most rural is lake superior The lake with the longest shoreline is lake huron,
We can best manage the ecosystem by controlling how we get rid of our wastes, and recycling more. instead of putting trash in the ground and rivers, lakes, ect. we can find new uses for them and help keep the quality of our lakes at their best.

Two pollutants in our action project are fertilizers, and greenhouse gases.

The water that you use in your house goes into a water treatment plant, to be cleaned and used again.
Runoff water is water from areas like parking lots, a larger area of water. It goes into bigger bodies of water like rivers or lakes.
i think that it should because runoff water collects many pollutants while getting to a water source, thereby making the bigger body of water dirty and full of dirt and chemicals. so it should go through the same cleaning processes as sewer water does so it can all get cleaned and be better for you
Parking lots, farms, over-fertilized gardens & fields, & chemicals from cars on the roads.
Point source pollution is from a localized place, like a factory or store that contaminates the water. Non-point source pollution is from a variety of places, and may not always be identifiable like many parking lots that have dripping oil from cars on them.
A watershed is a small place where water flows into a different place, like inland water flowing into the great lakes.action project are fertilizers, and greenhouse gases

what i learned on my nature walk

Ilearned on my nature walk many thinkgs. Crickets make their nosies by rubbing there wings together. i also learnd that some berries are very dangerous. some are dangerous for you as you get older because you can't taste the bitterness. the berries can serverly hurt you.

our water group is nitreate and it relates becuase plants need nitrate to graow and people use fertilizer and there's nitreate in fertilizer.

Kayla and I are growing gradens.

Were doing our project by going to other schools and plating gardens to make them invitng and look better.

My responsiblites are to plant gardens and taking pictures.

Footprint Blog

http://www.footprintnetwork.org/en/index.php/GFN/page/calculators/

yes it's a good site for me and yonger kids.

if everybody lived like me we wold need 5.6 planet earths to provide enough resources

i can reduce my footprint by eating more localy grown foods instead of processsed foods
the school can reduce the footprint by useing less energy by useing something natral
our community can redce the footprint  by drivng less and working together to make it so we can.

mine and kayla's action project is to plant gardens around the communtiy to get people out and it helps balace our enviroment for palonation. doing just that small thing it will help everything arond us.

First Post

What I want to learn about technology is how to avoid  bad things on the internet. i would like to know if there is a more efficient way to use the internet. i want to know how technology really helps me everyday. i want to know what the world would be like with out technology. how much life or the world would be different if we didn't have technology today.

What i want to learn in global science is why the climate changes so much. i would like to know more about disasters and how they happen. what causes the disasters happen. i want to know more about the solar system. i want to learn about the moon.
